What Our Law Students Say

“From Classrooms to Courtrooms”
OUR INSTITUTIONAL CHARTER

Bridging the Doctrinal Gap in Legal Education

◆

Amicus Discipulus was founded by senior practitioners who recognized an acute, persistent failure across legal academia: law schools excel at teaching appellate jurisprudence, but leave students completely unprepared to draft a rudimentary interim application, scrutinize an indemnity clause, or construct a pristine special leave petition.

✕ Traditional Law School Syllabus

  • Focuses exclusively on memorizing case-law outcomes and abstract jurisprudence.
  • Examinations assess 3,000-word descriptive essays rather than procedural briefs.
  • Citation is taught as an afterthought without standard reporter discipline.
  • No redline critique on drafting syntax, ambiguity, or litigation exposure.

◆ The Amicus Discipulus Training

  • Simulates high-pressure chambers drafting using raw, uncurated factual matrices.
  • Students draft petitions under the Supreme Court Rules and Commercial Courts Act.
  • Rigorous enforcement of Bluebook (21st Ed.) and official SCC citation standards.
  • Chambers redlining: every brief is marked up with line-by-line practitioner reasoning.
PEDAGOGICAL CORNERSTONES

The Three Core Pillars

◆

Our curriculum is built around three non-negotiable principles that cultivate disciplined, courtroom-ready legal intellects.

PILLAR I

Learn by Redlining

Theory without feedback breeds bad habits. We discard passive grading rubrics in favor of the practitioner redline: every sentence is tested for legal precision, tautology is eliminated, and procedural vulnerabilities are ruthlessly flagged.

PILLAR II

Practitioner-Led Insights

Our faculty is comprised solely of active Advocates-on-Record, dispute resolution partners, and veteran judicial clerks. Students learn the subtle, unwritten conventions of judge psychology and cross-examination strategy.

PILLAR III

Peer Benchmarking

Legal practice is adversarial and competitive. Our standardized national benchmarking system allows students to evaluate their drafting velocity, citation accuracy, and argument structure against the finest minds across India's top law schools.

SAMPLE EXERCISE: COMMERCIAL CONTRACT BRIEF
Clause 14.2 — Liquidated Damages & Breach of Exclusivity

In the event of any material breach of Clause 3 (Exclusivity) by the Supplier, the Supplier shall pay an unconditional and unappealable penalty of INR 50,00,000 immediately upon demand the Supplier shall be liable to compensate the Purchaser for proven direct losses, subject to a pre-estimated and agreed ceiling not exceeding INR 50,00,000, which the parties expressly acknowledge as a genuine pre-estimate of damages and not by way of penalty under Section 74 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872.

The Purchaser shall have the unrestricted right to forfeit all bank guarantees without notice. Any invocation of the Performance Bank Guarantee shall be preceded by a formal 14-day cure notice detailing the specific covenant default.

Adv. Vikramaditya Sen (AOR)
Section 74, Contract Act & Kailash Nath v. DDA (2015)
Struck down 'penalty'. Indian courts do not enforce stipulated penalties without proof of actual loss unless proving loss is impossible. Phrasing must reflect a 'genuine pre-estimate of loss'.
Ananya Deshmukh (Senior Associate)
Arbitration & Injunction Risk Mitigation
Unrestricted invocation of bank guarantees triggers Section 9 interim stay applications in court. Adding a mandatory 14-day cure notice protects the client from arbitrary injunctions.
